Even if Tossa de Mar lies at the Mediterranean Sea , its economy has been based - before the tourism became the main source of income - not on the fishing, but on agriculture and forestry. Cork from Tossa de Mar was exported even to the United States and the local wine was estimated everywhere in Europe. Fishing took only the third position in the income scale. Today most of the agricultural surfaces have been replaced by hotels and holyday flats, and the fishing is only continued by few families of Tossa.
